2025 Scholarship recipients
Congratulations to the following 2025 Cynthia D. Brown Scholarship recipients:
Karma Livingston
Karma is a graduating senior at Hillside High School in Durham. In addition to ranking number 1 out of 304 students in her senior class, she also held leadership roles in several school and community organizations. Those roles include, president of Future Business Leaders of America; Head Bank Teller for the Hillside HS Hornet Bank, Vice President of Theta Phi Delta Service Sorority and Co-President of the HHS National Honor Society. She was also dually enrolled at Durham Technical Community College. Karma plans to attend North Carolina A&T in the fall, majoring in accounting. Following college graduation, she plans to become a CPA and financial advisor, with hopes of equipping her community with the tools and knowledge to break cycles of poverty and build lasting economic security.
Linay Bullock
Linay is a graduating senior at Durham School of Technology. In addition to excelling academically, her extracurricular activities include membership in the Student Government Association, National Honor
Society, Beautification Club, Music Club and Theta Phi Delta service organization. She plans to attend North Carolina Central University in the fall. Linay states that she wants to be part of the generation that breaks cycles, not just for her, but for every girl who’s ever been told she’s not enough.
Samiaya Wilson
Samiaya is a graduating senior at Northern High School in Durham. In additional to excelling academically, her extracurricular activities include membership in the National Honor Society, Student Council and Junior Varsity Volleyball. Samiaya’s school counselor states that one of her most defining qualities is her passion for storytelling through photography. Samiaya plans to attend UNC Charlotte in the fall, majoring in art. Her life aspiration is to use photography to connect with others and offer new perspectives.
Breanna- Le Wilson
Breanna-Le is a graduating senior at Hillside High School in Durham. In additional to excelling academically, she is a member of Black Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club, Culinary Club, and was an International Baccalaureate Student. She plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall, majoring in psychology. Her future aspirations include being a mental health advocate, especially for people of color.
Jayla Turner
Jayla is a graduating senior at Perquimans County High School in Hertford, North Carolina. In addition to excelling academically, she was active in her high school Ambassador Program, Pep Club and Music Theater Program. She was also dually enrolled in the local community college. She plans to attend North Carolina Central University in the fall, majoring in nursing. Jayla’s short-term aspirations include dedicating herself to her studies, education, service to others and eventually, her future career.
